How It Works

Keep the job.
Come home.

Return2SA becomes your employer in South Africa, so moving home does not mean starting over. We take care of your local contract, payroll, tax and compliance, while you keep the role, the team and the salary you already have.

The process

Eleven steps, one path home.

Every relocation follows the same clear path. Some steps move quickly, others take the time they need, but you always know where you stand.

1
Getting in touch

First contact

However you find us, through LinkedIn, a friend's recommendation, or simply searching for a way home, you reach out or fill in a short form to start the conversation.

2

Initial outreach

Within 2 days, we send a warm reply with more information about how Return2SA works, along with a link to book a discovery call at a time that suits you.

3

Discovery call

On a call with our team, we get to know your role, your employer, and your reasons for wanting to move home. We explain exactly how the service works, and prepare you for the conversation with your employer.

4
Bringing your employer on board

You raise it with your employer

Armed with everything from your discovery call, you have an honest conversation with your employer: that you would like to move home to South Africa, and that Return2SA can make that possible without losing you as an employee.

5

Your employer responds

If your employer is open to the idea, you or they get in touch with Return2SA to arrange a meeting. If they need more time, that is fine too. You can always pick this up again when the time is right.

6

We talk to your employer

With or without you in the room, we walk your employer through how the Employer of Record arrangement works, what we take care of, and what it costs. Every question gets a straight answer.

7

Proposal and sign-off

Once you, your employer, and Return2SA are all aligned, we share a formal proposal. When it is signed, the arrangement is confirmed and the real planning of your move begins.

8
Making the move

Relocation support

From here, we support your family directly and through trusted partners with the practical side of relocating: housing, banking, shipping your belongings, and anything else that comes up along the way.

10
Working from home

Same job, new location

You start working for your employer again: same role, same team, same projects, just from South Africa. Return2SA becomes your official employer of record, handling your local contract, payroll, and tax compliance from day one.

11

Your first payslip in SA

Your first South African payslip lands, right on time, with no gap in income. From here, payroll and compliance run quietly in the background every month, and we are one call away if anything changes.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions.

A few things professionals usually want to know before they start.

Do I need to resign from my current job?

No. The whole point of Return2SA is to avoid resignation entirely. Your role and your relationship with your employer continue as before. Only the legal employment entity and your physical location change.

What does my employer need to do?

Your employer signs an agreement with Return2SA, who becomes your Employer of Record in South Africa. Your employer continues to direct your day-to-day work exactly as before, the only change is who runs your local contract, payroll, and compliance.

How is my salary and tax handled?

Return2SA runs your payroll in South Africa, ensuring correct SARS tax deductions, UIF and statutory contributions, and compliant payslips, so you remain fully compliant as a South African tax resident from day one.

How long does the transition take?

Typically a few weeks from signed agreement to your first South African payslip, depending on your employer's responsiveness and your own relocation timeline. We plan the whole process around your move date.

What if my employer has never used an Employer of Record before?

That is completely normal, most haven't. We guide your employer through the agreement step by step and handle all the South African side of things, so it requires minimal effort on their part.
